I'm asking for funds to help a young Black, disabled, neurodivergent queer/trans person escape Florida; and to help myself and my partner provide them with stable housing.
We're asking for a total of $1,500 to cover:
- travel and shipping costs for himself, his pets, and his belongings
 - URGENT upcoming rent and utilities payments (due Oct 5!!) for the disabled trans and queer household they're moving into, in order to maintain a safe and stable environment for them to get back on their feet
 - food, transportation expenses, and quality of life improvements during the meantime as they navigate bureaucracy to get on local SNAP/EBT and Medicaid programs

In order to protect the privacy of the beneficiary, I can't to go into too much detail about the specifics of their situation; however, I can describe it from my perspective.
My friend is currently in the process of picking up their life and moving across the country to escape an unsafe temporary housing situation and the ever-present -- yet increasing -- risk to their livelihood. I have been in direct contact with him for about a month, helping him arrange his escape and preparing our household to receive him. He boarded a cross country flight with a suitcase and a bag of all his most necessary items, leaving his pets behind in the care of some friends, and we picked him up from the airport. He is safe and settling in to Oregon for the meantime, but we're still working to finalize the move and bring his pets here with him.
My partner and I are disabled queer and trans artists, and we've been struggling to make a living due to the current recession. We've contributed a significant amount of our funds and resources to making sure he's able to recover from the move and start a new life here, resources we don't really have to spare. We're working hard to secure funds, but as of now, we're out $700 and won't be able to make our rent and utilities payments on time.
Our friend is such a wonderful soul and deserves all the care and love in the world. He's been an incredible person to get to know and to live with, and we're so blessed to have the opportunity to provide him with a safe place to recuperate.
Any and all funds exceeding the immediate need for rent, utilities, and shipping out their pets and remaining belongings, will go directly to them. Even though he's been through so much in the past few months, he's working so hard to provide for himself and get his needs met. They would be so grateful to have their basic needs provided for, to have their pets by their side, and to have the chance to rest and begin anew.
We know that there are so many worthwhile fundraisers that people are contributing their spare funds to right now, especially those for Palestinian families enduring the genocide in Gaza.
By all means, please keep donating to those fundraisers. But if you have anything left to give, your support would mean the world to each of us.
Every cent matters in this situation, and we truly appreciate any and all support we may receive. If you're unable to donate at this time, please share this fundraiser with your friends and family, your coworkers, or on social media.
Thank you all for your support. Much love!
