Help a Wonderful Family Stay Housed
Donation protected
Hi! I'm Bridget, and I'm a teacher who is raising money to support a family at my school who is going through a very challenging time, and who is at risk of becoming homeless at the end of May. Any donation you can contribute, no matter the amount, will help prevent this family from being evicted.
Here's a quick summary of the family's needs:
Because of medical issues, not qualifying for the stimulus checks, and challenges finding work during COVID, the family is 5 months behind on paying their rent and utility bills. The family needs $3000 to pay the rent they owe, and $1200 to pay the gas and electric bills they are behind on. If the family cannot pay their rent by the end of May, they will be evicted with nowhere to go.
Here's a more detailed description of the family's situation:
The family has three smart, delightful, talented daughters who work hard and are doing very well in school - despite all of the difficulties their family is facing. Two of the daughters, a kindergartener and an 8th grader, currently attend my schools, KIPP Bloom Primary and KIPP Bloom College Prep. The oldest daughter is a freshman in high school. The parents are incredibly dedicated to their daughters' wellbeing and success, and they have worked hard to provide opportunities for their daughters.
Because of COVID, the family has struggled to find consistent work this past year. The family does not qualify for stimulus checks or many government programs because they are immigrants. Because of the electricity demands of remote learning and because of the frigid cold this past winter, the family's gas and electric bills have been extremely high, and they are unable to pay them. Additionally, they have had some serious medical issues this past year that have generated huge medical bills - to the point that they had to sell their car to pay for a medical procedure.
The family has applied for every grant and assistance program that they qualify for, but they either haven't gotten responses or have been told that no funds remain. They have attempted to work with both their landlord and the utility companies to reduce the amount they owe to something they can afford, without success.
Now for my pitch:
Having worked with this family for a couple years now, I can say they are one of the most caring, honest, kind families I've ever worked with. Their girls mean so much to me, and they have such bright futures ahead of them, as long as they can continue to have their basic needs met. The parents are so worried about this situation, and have exhausted every option. The family (and I!) would be so appreciative of any support you can provide. PLEASE consider donating.
A final note: I intentionally have not included the family's name or photo to protect their daughters' privacy, but trust me when I say that this family's need is great. The family and I would be so grateful for any amount you can give.
