My Story & Why I Must Leave

Hello, my name is Amber Johnson, and I’m here to ask about funding my move from the UK to Denmark. I’m a transgender woman in my mid-late 20’s currently living in South Yorkshire, England. For several years now, I’ve been feeling unwanted in my home country. There has been an ongoing media and governmental campaign against the transgender community, which has so far culminated in a legitimisation by the Labour government, a party I voted for based on the promise in their manifesto that they would simplify the process of transitioning, implying their support for the transgender community. Their words and actions have been anything but.

I have multiple disabilities, one of which makes it genuinely dangerous for me to stay in the United Kingdom. I have dyspraxia, a coordination and cognitive learning disorder that can make my life a bit of a nightmare. I have incredibly poor time management skills, I have a very poor short term memory which combines with the time management to regularly lead to me miss appointments and lose track of my possessions. I can’t write or type at a reasonable speed, which has really hampered my ability to do university work, which has in part led to me failing my first year three times and I’m now due to fail my second year as well. I also have hypermobile joint disorder, so my joints are unstable and this leads to massive amounts of pain that can come on at any time, subluxations, and side effects, mainly IBS-D and chronic fatigue.

The disability I referred to as dangerous, however, is my psychotic disorder. For the vast majority of the time, I don’t experience any psychotic symptoms. However, I have had two episodes, once in 2018, and again in 2021. I believe that if I am able to successfully leave the country, I might be able to come off of my medication and live a relatively normal life, free from the worry of psychosis. But if I’m forced to stay here in the UK, the worry and stress I face around my wellbeing as a disabled trans woman might cause me to slip back into another episode. And this time, I have no way of knowing if I might be placed on a male ward. I almost faced sexual assault the last time. If there’s a next time, I might not be so lucky.

Looking To The Future

This isn’t all about doom and gloom. If I’m able to move with your help, I will find my fiancee’s family waiting for me in Denmark. They aren’t able to help much financially, but they can help us look out for our dog Chewie, and they will be able to help me integrate into Danish society. I will also be posting regular update videos to this gofundme page, starting with a YouTube video discussing all the many projects I’ve wanted to start over the years; projects that will largely have to be put on hold until I’m able to move. If you don’t have the money to support me financially, then please share this campaign with as many people as you can.

How Your Donation Will Help

My goal is to make this move in Summer of 2026. This is when I will have my Irish passport, which will greatly simplify the moving process. Every donation makes this goal closer. Here is a transparent breakdown of how the funds will be used:

  • The first £1000 will go towards immediate financial stability. It will clear our debts, which will help to reduce the stress that puts me at risk

  • £1001-8000 will be spent on the core move
  • It will ensure we can afford to get to Copenhagen
  • We will be able to move with our dog Chewie
  • The remainder will go towards the cost of housing

  • £8000+ will go towards my transitional healthcare and establishing my new life in Denmark
  • I may have to go privately for my hormones at first
  • I would like to have FFS
  • I would like an orchiectomy
  • I need voice training
  • I want to start working on my YouTube channel
  • Eventually, I would like to get salmacian surgery, something you should look up if you’re intrigued

A huge thank you, and I hope my story can have a happy ending.
