I’m Rayaan Hassan Mohammadi, a visually impaired climber based in Berkeley, California, and a proud member of the USA Paraclimbing National Team.
I started as a mountaineer at 18, and later found rock climbing in 2015 and it changed my life.
Today, I am an advanced climber and an AMGA Single Pitch Instructor.
This year, I placed 2nd at the 2026 Canadian Paraclimbing Nationals and 2nd at the 2026 USA Paraclimbing Nationals.
These results earned me a place on Team USA and the opportunity to compete in the World Cup Seris of 2026.
I am legally blind and live with retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative condition that continues to take my vision over time.
I compete in the B3 visually impaired category — and in climbing, that means I cannot compete alone.
I do not have peripheral vision so I rely on a caller, Lydia — my teammate, my eyes on the wall.
“Right hand at 2 o'clock.”
“Small edge above your head.”
“Left foot at 9 o'clock.”
Without her, I cannot compete. It is mandetory to have a caller in my category.
The Mission: 2026 World Cup Series
This year, I have the opportunity to represent Team USA at five international World Cup events:
Salt Lake City, USA
Innsbruck, Austria
Laval, France
Gunsan, South Korea
Fukuoka, Japan
My vision is getting worse. There is no guarantee how long I will be able to compete at this level.
Time matters.
This is my chance to show what’s possible — not just for me, but for every athlete facing limitations and still choosing to push forward.
Why I Need Your Help
There is little to no financial support for athletes like me at this level. Paraclimbers must pay their own way, for myself and my caller.
Estimated total cost: $50,000
This includes:
International & domestic flights (for 2 people)
Hotels and accommodations
Food and daily expenses
Transportation
Competition registration fees
Gear (I go through climbing shoes every other month)
Your support directly makes this journey possible.
Why It Matters.
It’s about:
Pushing beyond limitations
Representing adaptive athletes on a global stage
Proving that vision loss does not mean giving up
Every donation, no matter the size, helps us take one step closer to the wall… and to the top.
