We're raising funds to help a survivor of sexual assault with legal representation. She defended herself against the person who sexually assaulted her, who is retaliating against her with an abusive civil lawsuit which includes demands for over $250k in damages. Because it is a civil lawsuit, she does not qualify for a public defender, and she cannot afford a lawyer. She is effectively being re-traumatized through the legal system. This is unfortunately a common abuse tactic (click for more info).

We're asking friends, allies, survivors and supporters to pitch in to help with her legal fees.

Luckily, we're in touch with a recommended civil defense lawyer but legal bills are adding up. We are protecting her privacy by collecting and paying the lawyer through my own account. We are asking for community support to pitch into this legal defense fund and to combat the criminalization of her self-defense against sexual violence.

She has two court dates approaching in late July and early August. I hope we can all come together and show her that she's not alone, and help her feel held and supported right now.  All funds will go to her legal fees. If/when her lawyer wins and gets attorney fees awarded, all funds raised will return back to her for her healing costs.

We are asking for community help because we believe survival and self-defense should not be criminalized. Thank you for supporting her and for refusing to normalize sexual and legal violence.
