My friend is a veteran who has always worked hard, but lately he’s been struggling to keep up with basic bills. The winter brought outrageous electric and heating costs, and to keep the power on, his payment plan was extremely high each month. Even though he’s employed, the high bills and unexpected expenses have made it impossible to catch up.

On top of the electric bill, he owes past due income taxes because his employer didn’t withhold enough. The amount he owes keeps growing with penalties. Property taxes are also overdue, and he’s worried about losing his home if he can’t pay them soon. It’s a stressful situation, and he’s doing everything he can, but it’s just not enough right now.
