Help A Veteran & First Responder Stay In His Home

PLEASE HELP A VETERAN & FIRST RESPONDER STAY IN HIS HOME

First of all, I am embarrassed that I have to turn to a GoFundMe appeal to try to solve my housing troubles. For background, I was born in the mid-1950's, and am rather "Old School". This means that I was raised to be independent, be generous to others, and take care of myself. It also means that I was taught to give back to my community, and I have seen the good things which compassionate giving can achieve. The problem which I now face is that I have exhausted my savings and monthly retirement income, and am overcome with being delinquent in my rent payments. Additionally, my applications to local charities and the state human services agency have not been successful, mainly because they lack available funds. I don't know what else to do, and need help.

During the past several months I have encountered health problems that, while not crippling, make my daily living painful and difficult. Usually, I am active and in good health, that is until I had a very bad fall in October 2021. A long story short, this fall has been determined to be the cause of severe spinal injury, including displaced vertebrae and ruptured discs. During the diagnosis of my back pain and physical mobility problems, the MRI images also showed that I have a mass (as yet not fully diagnosed) in one of my kidneys. An operation to fuse my L3-L4-L5-S1 vertebrae is planned, and this surgery must take place before my possible kidney problems can be dealt with. To add insult to injury, the recent physical examinations and blood tests needed for planning my back surgery have uncovered that I now have Type 2 Diabetes. This was a huge surprise to me, and all of newly needed Rx medications are very costly.

So why the lengthy "woe is me" explanation? To ease my pain, help increase my hindered mobility, and fight my diabetic condition, I have been prescribed many expensive Rx medications which, while needed, have been costing me over $2,000./month out of pocket above what Medicare pays. This situation has helped me appreciate what it means to "fall through the cracks" with medical services available to the average American. Since my monthly expenses were greater than my retirement income, I drew down my savings to the point where it has now been exhausted. Paying for my necessary medications, I had to make unpleasant choices and got behind in my monthly rent. I now owe my landlord $3,477.90 to bring my account back to good standing.

There is partly good news in that, with the recent 2023 annual Medicare re-enrollment period, I will soon be able to adjust my Medicare Part D prescription drug insurance benefit to pay for most of my medications AFTER January 1, 2023. However, the problem I still have is coming up with the cash to pay my landlord and avoid eviction on January 2, 2023.

What I am humbly and respectfully asking, is that you please help me just this ONE TIME to raise the $3,477.90 (and no more) so that I can remain in my home. I ask for your kind consideration and generous compassion. Thank you very sincerely!
