Hi my name is Katrina and I am a good family friend of Rachael Eliana's mother. I have started this go fund me for a family in need to help with medical apts, medication and transport.
Late evening on monday the 24th of November 9 year old Eliana was trying to open a kitchen draw when it become jammed and in her quick impulsive way to tug on the draw causing it to fling open and a sharp steak knife to hit her directly in the eye cutting it from side to side.
Like any parent Eliana's mother Rachael rushed her to hospital fearing the worst to be told once arriving and examined that she would need to be flown that evening to westmead.
Elianas brothers and sisters remained at home with a very special person they share life with while Eliana and Rachael have needed to spend the last week and more in hospital. Elianas father Toby needed to take time off work causing him to loose a significant amount of his in income.
Racheal has needed to borrow and beg to get through the days only accessing one meal a day until she was offered a room at Ronald McDonald house late Friday.
Rachael and Toby have been informed by Elianas medical team that she will require ongoing weekly visits to westmead along with expensive eye drops. This is to give Eliana the best chance they can at saving her eye and the small amount of sight she may still have.
Rachael and her family are struggling to afford the ongoing travel and treatment and give to anyone In need no matter how big or small even when it means going without herself.
Rachael has asked that I have the funds put into my account and then I Osko pay them directly to Rachael this is so if funds are needed at short notice I can get them to her instantly
I ask that for anyone who can spare even the smallest amount please reach out and help this family in their time of need.
Update 16/12
So far all funds raised have been transferred to Rachael (Elianas mother) to assist with covering the cost of transport back to westmead, steroid medication and multiple eye drops and medical bills that have arose unexpectedly.
Eliana was taken back to emergency 15/12 with pain in her eye and the uncertainty if she will need to go back to westmead before her scheduled apt this week.
Once again thank you to everyone and anyone who has shared and donated everything help
