I've been working closely with a refugee family from Venezuela now living in Heber City, Utah. This incredible family has overcome unimaginable hardship. Both parents are Deaf and communicate in Venezuelan Sign Language. Despite the barriers they face, they are some of the hardest-working, most humble people I've ever met.
Their journey to the United States was long and dangerous — they walked thousands of miles from Venezuela in search of safety and opportunity for their children. They've been doing everything they can to build a new life, but recently, tragedy struck.
Their teenage son, who is still learning English and adjusting to life here, recently attempted suicide and has been hospitalized for over a week in Salt Lake City — more than an hour away. They visit him as often as possible, but just yesterday their only car — the one they use for work and hospital visits — broke down completely. The engine seized after running out of oil. Because the father could not hear, he didn't realize the car was making noises that signaled trouble until it was too late.
Now, they have no transportation to get to work or to visit their son in the hospital. Bills are piling up, and they are under immense emotional and financial strain.
We are hoping to raise money to help this family purchase a reliable used vehicle and cover hospital bills. Every donation — no matter the size — will make a real difference in their lives.
They are kind, resilient, and deeply grateful for any support. Your contribution will help them stay connected as a family, keep their jobs, and continue rebuilding the hopeful life they risked everything to find.
