I am a graduate student of history at UNC. This summer was supposed to be a time for me to complete edits on two of my dissertation chapter drafts to prepare to graduate in 2026. My plans have to change a little now, because my home was just destroyed in a flood. Please consider helping me, my wife, and our cat with this fundraiser!

On July 6th, 2025, around 8pm, water started to flow into my apartment. Within half an hour, it was up to my knees. Although we tried to slow the water with barriers and by bailing it with a bucket, we were unsuccessful. I could not even open my front or back door because the water level was higher outside than inside. By 11pm, the water started to recede enough for me to try to assess damages. Our car was totaled, many of our books and notes were ruined, our cat's toys were damaged beyond use, and all of my furniture and kitchen appliances were destroyed. Most electronics were destroyed, too. To add insult to injury, the flood water even entered my fridge and pantry and ruined the fresh and dry foods that we bought earlier that day.
