My name is Catherine Scott and, along with Bob Bloom, I am fundraising on behalf of our Ukrainian friends.

In early March, my former colleague and friend Viktor Teres’ young grandchildren (ages 6 and 7) fled Kyiv with their mother and grandmother on a bus heading for Poland. They left with almost nothing, fleeing Russian forces that had invaded their country. 

Their father is still in Kyiv, unable to leave the country as all able bodied men must stay and fight. We are raising money to help Viktor, his wife, his daughter in law and the children immigrate to Canada. They hope to start a new, peaceful and safe life in the Toronto, Ontario area.

They will need help with flight costs, rent, food, transportation and all start up costs in Toronto. We are hopeful that with their backgrounds and education, they will be able to find work (even if not in their exact fields). While the government is providing some emergency support, we know it won’t be nearly enough. 

 

Note - All funds raised will be used to support Viktor and his family upon arrival in Canada. As soon as they are settled, we will ensure they open a Canadian bank account asap in their own name. 

 

*If for any reason they are unable to come to Canada, a refund will first be offered. After that, all remaining funds will be donated to either World Central Kitchen - an incredible organization providing thousands of meals daily to displaced Ukrainians - or another charity of your choice.
