Hi y'all! My name's Kristin, a Mississippi trans girl who's asking for a lot of help. Legislation, common sentiment, and personal family sentiments around LGBTQ and specifically trans folk in the South is the scariest it's been in my lifetime, and things are getting more dangerous than ever.
The time has unfortunately come for me to flee the South, and, without the support of my family or my college, I am joining the thousands and thousands of queer, trans and nonbinary folks who have become refugees within the country they call home.
I have met people who live in Portland, Oregon who will help me start a much more honest and fulfilling life in a much safer social, political, and economic environment for trans people. In a short time the handful of trans people and allies I knew in Portland expanded into a small, loving community of people that are eager to be there for me once I get there.
Many people who are leaving their home states like I am must deal with great unknown factors, though I know how fortunate I am to know that in Portland I will be among those I love. I'm asking for help to allow me to make the final move up to Portland, Oregon. !! I will most likely be couch-surfing and be considered homeless the moment I leave my home of MS !!
Anything you can give to help me get out of the South, and keep myself afloat while in Oregon, is nothing short of life-changing. I will be attempting to apply for several benefits and assistance programs, on top of attempting to find consistent work in Portland, Oregon. Whichever comes first; if enough is being raised along the way, my financial situation becomes more stable, or the initial goal is reached, any donations and mutual aid goes miles.
I hope some of you are able to help a sister out and spread awareness of my situation. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading the plight of a fellow sister!
