Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! My name is Asri Alhamdaputri, and I am a Trans Woman of Color Asylee from Indonesia. I grew up in Indonesia, a mostly conservative country with the largest muslim population, where trans women like me are marginalized and persecuted. After coming to America in 2015, I have since sought political Asylum so I can stay here and live my life as Asri. And after a long time coming, I finally have a chance to be granted permanent residency (green card) this June 2021.

However, this dream comes with a cost. To file an application with the USCIS I would need $3,000.00, and it would cost an additional $2,000.00 to pay legal fees.

As a trans woman of color, I was denied a lot of employment opportunity. COVID has also really impacted my financial situation and exposed me to housing insecurity. And after starting my medical transition process and coming out to my family as trans, I've had to provide for myself in the Bay Area at the young age of 23. Surviving each month with rent and groceries has been tough enough, and so, my dream of obtaining a green card for myself seems so far away because of my financial situation.

I would need the support of my community to be able to afford my dream: to live my truth as a fully out trans woman.

The stress of just trying to survive off off the little money I had stopped me from making art. Make my dream come true so I can keep putting out art like this for my community:
