Hello, my name is Kit (he/they). I am 26 years old and a trans man, and was unfortunate enough to be born trans in Russia.

In 2022, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, I immediately foresaw the worsening situation for queer people in that country - after all, we are the typical scapegoat in times of a turn towards political repression. My decision to leave was very quick and without a second thought.

Thankfully, I was lucky enough to receive asylum in Germany, but this would not have been possible without the legal assistance of my lawyer. As of now, I am in significant debt over lawyer fees and other costs associated with the bureaucracy of asylum seeking in Germany, due to being unable to work full-time until the issuance of my asylum decision.

My hope is to start a self-reliant life for myself in Germany, but that is impossible until my debt is paid off quickly and in full. I have not been able to start the medical process of transition due to my financial hardship, and it has been 5 years since I first came to the conclusion that I must transition for my well-being. The potential of waiting many more years in limbo is a crushing realization.
