I'm a trans man and singer from the USA, traveling to Canada to study opera performance with my new baritone voice!

Since starting testosterone in fall 2023, my voice has dropped from its previous soprano to a baritone. After being a professional performer in classical, crossover, and musical theatre for years, I'm learning how to use my voice all over again. I'm applying as a transfer student (having completed an Associate's in Arts, and certificates in Music Production and Audio Recording) to 4 universities with BMus degrees in Voice Performance and robust opera programs. The money I raise will help me with fees and costs associated with auditions in early 2025, and then with tuition and living expenses when my classes start in fall.

I'm applying in Canada specifically because I'm trans and scared of how my rights could get squashed under the incoming Trump administration. I can't live and build a career in a country where I wake up every morning and check the news to see if the HRT that makes my still-maturing voice possible is no longer legal, or if my existence as a trans performer has been criminalized by a nationwide drag ban.
