Help a trans handyman get top surgery… before it’s too late!

Have you ever had a friend who would drop everything to be at your side? Have you ever met someone who would literally give you the shirt off their back and the shoes off their feet? My best friend Nic is the kindest, humblest, most loyal man I have ever met. He is the local "Mr. Fix-It" who offers affordable and sliding scale handyman services to the entire community.

Nic is also a transgender man. In order to keep his identity private and remain safe at work and in the community, Nic must bind his chest with a compression garment. While this is safe for short durations, Nic must work long, physically demanding hours with his binder. As a transgender man myself, I remember how difficult it is to breathe after a long, physically demanding day. Nic has been forced to bind for 8 years because he works in an industry that lacks access to health insurance.

With the recent onslaught of transphobia from this current political administration, the future of gender affirming surgery is unclear. On January 28th, 2025, President Trump issued an executive order banning federal agencies from giving funding to medical institutions that offer gender affirming care for people under 19. It is likely a matter of time before bans on gender affirming surgeries and hormones for adults are passed at the state and federal level. Nic and I live in the deep South, so we are contending with both a hostile federal and state government. We don’t know how much longer we have for him to finally get this surgery.

Nic has made an appointment with a Louisiana surgeon to develop a plan to pay for his top surgery out-of-pocket. Contributions to this campaign will help Nic pay medical fees for the initial consultation with the surgeon, the surgery bill, the anesthesia bill, and follow-up appointment fees.
