Mason did everything he was told to do.

He secured insurance. He followed their process. He got the evaluations, the documentation, the approvals. In June 2025, he was given the go-ahead—coverage confirmed for the care he needs.

For a moment, it felt like things were finally moving forward.

Then in December 2025, that approval disappeared.

Not because anything about Mason changed. Not because the procedure suddenly became unnecessary. But because the insurance company changed its reasoning—digging up “explicit exclusions” in the policy and misapplying them to Top surgery’s billing codes to take back care they had already approved.

The same care. The same policy. Completely different answer.

Mason appealed.

He went through the process once. Then again.

Both times, the denial was upheld.

In the middle of all of this, he lost his scheduled April surgery date—something he had already prepared for mentally, physically, and financially—and was forced to reschedule, adding even more delay to a process that has already taken so much out of him.

So now he’s left in a position no one plans for: either start over with a new insurance provider—losing more time, more energy, and risking the same outcome—or pay entirely out of pocket for a procedure that was already approved once and should never have been taken away.

Top surgery isn’t cosmetic for Mason. It’s about being able to exist in public without fear. It’s about aligning his body with who he is so he can move through the world safely, without constant scrutiny or risk.

And right now, that safety feels even more fragile. Across the country, transgender people are facing increasing pressure, restrictions, and uncertainty around their care and their rights. What should be a straightforward medical decision is becoming harder to access, harder to protect, and easier to take away.

And now, every part of that care falls on him:

-Surgeon’s fees that are no longer covered
-Hospital and anesthesia costs
-Pre-op appointments and lab work
-Post-op medications and recovery supplies
-Compression garments required for healing
-Follow-up care to ensure proper recovery

None of these costs are optional. All of them are now his responsibility.

So this campaign exists because a system that said “yes” decided later it could get away with saying “no.”

If you’re able to help, your support goes directly toward making this surgery possible. If you can’t donate, sharing this campaign still makes a real difference.
