Help a Trans Attorney Avoid Eviction
Donation protected
The situation: So this sucks doesn't it? I'm crowdfunding to prevent getting evicted. I've been only partially employed since September 2024, when my Equal Justice Works Fellowship fighting at the intersection of trans rights and state-church separation ended. I started applying for jobs in the January before, but thanks to the way of the market, I still have yet to find full time employment, though I've had several job interviews. After 9 months of unemployment, I have gone through my savings, taken out as many loans as humanly possible, and maxxed out my credit cards, so now am trying to raise enough money to avoid an eviction in the coming days, whether through paying my overdue rent and staying in my apartment, or through having the money together to move out without my leasing company needing to file an eviction. I hate asking for help like this, but right now it's my only option. As of 5/23 I need to raise 1900 by 5/28 to avoid my leasing company filing for an eviction. Any money past that will also go directly to housing expenses for next month, and if I don't manage to reach that goal, will go towards moving expenses/eventually finding a new place.
About me: I'm a 28 year old trans and disabled attorney and policy guy, currently based out of Wisconsin, with a focus on work involving the intersections of law, politics, religion, and queerness. I run a blog, transingboundaries.com where I talk about those issues, as well as regularly write for the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Originally from southern Indiana, I went to law school to help people who were struggling with the issues I grew up with, queer rights, poverty, religious persecution, the criminal justice system and beyond. I'm applying for work as often as I can, but as many of us know, jobs are few and far between. I also have a 13 year old cat named Merlin, who is a very sweet baby and truly is one of the few things keeping me stable through this.
