Help a Teacher Ease the Cost of Cancer

Hi, my name is Steve. I'm raising money to help my friend Kerri pay some of her medical bills. She is a middle school teacher that was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. Kerri is currently getting chemotherapy treatments to shrink the tumor so that the surgery to remove it will go smoothly. The medical bills for this are tremendous and very difficult on a teacher salary.

I first met Kerri in an education classroom at UNCW as we both were seeking to become teachers. When the opportunity came for me to transition to a Montessori school and they needed help with hiring, I knew just who to call. Together, Kerri and I have spent the last 10 years building an incredible program at our school, encouraging positive classroom environments, and most importantly, developing a deep friendship as educators working side by side.

In the classroom setting, Kerri has a beautiful way of connecting with her students and easily transmits her love of reading and books to her class. She has a heart for each student that walks through her door and seeks to bring the best out in each of them.

When she's not in the classroom, Kerri is not one to sit still! She has an adventurous heart and boundless energy for activities in the great outdoors. On any given day, you can find her surfing, mountain biking, camping, hiking, walking her golden retriever Lenny, and unwinding with some restorative yoga.

Her diagnosis this past summer put all the things she loves to a halt. Due to her illness and treatments, she has been unable to be back in the classroom so far this year. This has been tough not only for her students and colleagues, but for her spirit as well. She's had to stop doing all the activities that once brought her joy, and that includes teaching.

The expenses related to this disease are astronomical. Your contribution to this fundraiser will help ease the financial burden for Kerri and allow her to focus on what’s most important, and that is her healing.
