Help a Teacher Avoid Eviction and Keep His Cats
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tommy Rawson, and I’m reaching out during one of the hardest moments of my life.
I’m a dedicated special education teacher who has spent years supporting students with unique needs. Teaching has always been my passion, and despite living with invisible disabilities, I’ve always pushed forward, giving everything I have to my students and school community.
This summer, I was unexpectedly let go from my position. Since then, I’ve been doing everything I can to stay afloat. I currently receive a small unemployment check, which goes directly toward basic necessities—rent and food. Unfortunately, it’s not enough.
Right now, I owe $1,290 in back rent, and with September rent of $760 coming due soon, I am facing eviction in the coming days. I had hoped my tax return would help me catch up, but it was taken in full due to student loan debt. I’ve exhausted all other options, applied for assistance, and tried every possible avenue to keep things together. My landlord has been patient, but time is running out.
Most heartbreaking of all, I may lose my two cats. They’ve been my emotional support through so many challenges, and the thought of being separated from them is unbearable.
I do not take asking for help lightly. I’ve been putting bandaids on this situation for months, doing everything I can to keep my home. But now, I need help. I'm asking for $2,050, which will cover the past-due rent and the upcoming month to help me stay housed while I continue to look for stable work and rebuild.
If you've ever had a teacher who believed in you, if you’ve ever loved a pet who helped you through hard times, or if you just want to help someone trying their hardest to hang on—please consider donating or sharing this campaign.
Your support—no matter the amount—will go directly toward keeping a roof over my head and helping me keep my small family together.
With deepest gratitude,
Tommy Rawson
