Help a Survivor Mom Rebuild Her Life After Tragedy

I’m starting this GoFundMe on behalf of a dear friend, Maria, who has endured more heartbreak and hardship than most of us can imagine. Maria is a survivor in every sense of the word—strong, loving, and determined—but right now, she needs help to begin rebuilding her life for herself and her children.

In 2022, Maria was at a peak in her life and was working towards fulfilling her long term goals. She was working full time at a job she loved and worked at for many years while attending school full time to become a registered nurse. She was also a dedicated member of her church and her faith.

However, Maria’s life was forever changed when she became the victim of a gunshot wound that left her paralyzed. She’s a devoted mother of seven who has never let her disability define her. Everyday, she faces overwhelming challenges with strength and grace, doing everything she can to care for her children despite her limited mobility and income.

Sadly, another unimaginable tragedy recently struck this family. It was discovered that her daughter was being abused physically, mentally and emotionally by her soon to be ex-husband—who has now been arrested and is no longer in their lives. This revelation has shattered their world, leaving this mother not only emotionally devastated but now the sole provider and protector for five of her children.

She is doing her absolute best, but she urgently needs our support. As a paraplegic, transportation is a major barrier. She needs a specialized, wheelchair-accessible vehicle and adaptations that will allow her to drive safely. These tools are not just about convenience—they are essential for her to get her children to school, therapy, and appointments, and to begin rebuilding a stable home for them.
