My name is Jordan, and I’ve been a hair stylist for 16 years. I have a background in Criminal Law and still do work with domestic violence survivors at the “Mini Mermaid Lounge”, my nonprofit salon within the YWCA domestic violence shelter. I am a survivor of domestic violence myself, and have built a career around integrating social work and community advocacy into my salon business.

I came across an anonymous post on one of our hair forums on Facebook of a fellow stylist looking for recommendations to build her kit back up after her abusive partner destroyed all of her tools, and references for potential job prospects to gain independence for herself and her children. OP was very clear she was not asking for handouts, but there were literally hundreds of you in the comments asking how you could support her. It would not be safe for her to share her contact information with everyone, so I coordinated this Go Fund Me for and with her that will go directly to her.

She is currently safe and is already in the process of meeting with local DV resources and figuring out what is next. ❤️ She has been a stay at home mom of five children for the last two years, and her partner has both isolated her and exploited her publicly throughout his abuse, including digital harassment, systematically dismantling her business, and physically destroying her professional tools, her clothing, makeup, and personal items. What he doesn’t know, is that he has a very intelligent wife, and she has an army of hair stylists behind her ready to hear her success story on the other side of this.

I am working on putting together a package of tools and products for her so she can get back to work and support her family as soon as possible. Abuse creeps in slow and can happen to anyone, and you are not alone. In all of this, it is a beautiful thing to see so many of you touched by her story without even knowing a fraction of it, and I feel honored to help coordinate any assistance I can.

What she will need most right now is to support her household financially as soon as he is removed from the home. As a stay at home mom, finances have been one of the massive barriers preventing her from being able to leave when the abuser is also the provider. Household expenses are approximately $4,200, so I am setting the goal for $10,000 to go towards 2 months of bills ($8,400) with a little extra wiggle room built in for her to go get some new work clothes, shoes, transportation needs, and for any additional unexpected expenses that may arise with 5 little ones. I will do my best to provide updates that respect the OP’s privacy as she feels inclined to share.
