Help a Student Restore Wood Duck Populations in Virginia

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sam, and I’m a senior in the Environmental Science Academy at Western Albemarle High School! As someone who loves being outside, I want to protect local wildlife and habitats. For my senior capstone project, I’m focusing on restoring wood duck populations in Central Virginia by building and installing 10 wood duck boxes to provide safe nesting sites.

Wood Ducks are one of North America’s most well-known bird species, but habitat loss has left them struggling to find safe nesting sites. These nesting boxes will provide much-needed shelter, protect their eggs and hatchlings from predators, and support the conservation of this important species.

Your donation will help cover:

  • Cedar planks (1x10x12) for building the boxes.
  • Rust-resistant nails and screws for assembly and installation.
  • Predator guards to keep nests safe.
  • Wood shavings to create a nest (Wood Ducks don't bring their own nesting materials).

This project is an important step in supporting biodiversity in our community while also being an opportunity to make a real-world impact.

Goal: $1000

Thank you so much for your generosity! Feel free to share this campaign with others who love nature and want to help make an impact!
