Help a Small Woman-Run Business Stay Open

Hello everyone,

My name is Mariah, and I’m the proud owner of Good Grief Yarn & Provisions, a small woman-run yarn shop in downtown Toronto. This dream began when I worked at a cozy shop in my hometown of Port Perry, inspired by my dear friend Amanda. After her passing, I vowed to honor her memory by building a community-focused yarn shop that brings joy and creativity to others, just as she did for me.

Yarn is not just a business for me—it’s a lifelong love that my mother introduced me to as a child. From those first knitting lessons to running a shop, the journey has been both incredible and challenging. Running a small business is more difficult than I imagined, and like many other businesses, the summer months have been particularly slow for us. Yarn isn’t exactly a hot commodity in warm weather! But now that summer is ending, we find ourselves in a tough spot, struggling to cover rent and other essential expenses.

I don’t want to ask for pity, but I’m reaching out for support in this time of need. As we prepare for the busy holiday season, I’d love for you to start thinking ahead—perhaps doing some early holiday shopping or treating yourself to something special from the shop. Every purchase helps us tremendously, and I’m offering as much variety and value as possible to make your experience worthwhile.
