Hi, my name is Bryeshia, and I am a single mother to a 5-year-old daughter. I work full time at a local school and also pick up home care shifts to support us. On top of that, I am pursuing my Master’s in Social Work, while my daughter is preparing to start kindergarten this school year.
Together, we’ve been working hard to maintain stability, but recently I went through an eviction case that was both stressful and unfair. Although the case is now closed, I was pressured into settling out of court and accepting fees that have placed an extra financial burden on me.
Here’s what happened: earlier this year, I made all of my rent payments, but one money order was mishandled and never deposited. Even though I had proof of payment and receipts, my concerns were ignored, and the issue was pushed into court. Thankfully I obtained an attorney through the school department's teacher's union. Unfortunately, my attorney came unprepared, overlooked key details of my case, and pressured me into settling. I was told that if I didn’t settle, I would risk losing my home.
In the end, I had no choice but to sign an agreement that falsely placed me at fault and forced me to pay the landlord's attorney fees I should not have been responsible for—especially since my lease never stated that tenants were required to cover the landlord’s legal costs in an eviction case.
Now, on top of my regular bills and a recent rent increase, I am required to pay $50 monthly toward these attorney fees. My budget is already stretched thin, and the stress of trying to manage everything while raising my daughter has been overwhelming.
What I am asking for help with is getting ahead on rent. If I can pay a few months in advance, it will give me the breathing room I need to:
- Keep up with my other household expenses
- Pay off the unfair attorney fees without falling behind
- Start saving to eventually move out and build a fresh start for me and my daughter
Your support would allow me to focus on stability instead of constant financial stress. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference in helping us stay secure and work toward a better future.
How Your Donations Will Help:
- Advance Rent Payments – Covering several months ahead to relieve financial stress and ensure stable housing.
- Attorney Fees – Paying off the $50/month balance left from the court case.
- Household Expenses – Keeping up with utilities, groceries, and essentials without falling behind.
- Savings to Relocate – Building a safety net to eventually move into a new home and start fresh.
Every dollar will go directly toward securing stability for me and my daughter.
Thank You
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to read my story. Your support—whether it’s through a donation, sharing this page, or keeping me and my daughter in your thoughts—means more than words can express.
Every act of kindness brings us one step closer to stability, peace of mind, and a brighter future. We are so grateful for your generosity and for being part of our journey forward.
With love and gratitude,
Bryeshia & Daughter
