I’m helping my friend L share their story in a way that protects the families privacy while being honest about what their children are facing right now.

L is a devoted single mom who has endured an incredibly difficult few years. After a sudden and painful divorce, they had to re-enter the workforce after years as a stay-at-home parent. What followed was a cycle of underemployment, layoffs, illness, and working exhausting hours—sometimes close to 80 hours a week—just to try to stay afloat.

Last year, things took a critical turn when L was laid off. Although they found another job, it came with a significant pay cut and a delayed start date. During that gap, they did everything she could—gig work, odd jobs—but it wasn’t enough to keep up with mounting expenses. By the time they began working again, they had already fallen behind in a way that’s been incredibly hard to recover from.

Despite continuing to work multiple jobs and recently securing a better full-time position, the financial damage has lingered. Like so many others, L experienced firsthand how one unexpected life event can unravel everything, especially when things were already fragile.

L lives modestly and prioritizes the children above all else. There is no extra spending—every dollar goes toward basic needs. Still, they have not been able to catch up, and are currently about a month and a half behind on rent. They've explored every available option—rental assistance programs, social services, loans—but has come up empty. The leasing company is unable to offer further flexibility.

They do not have family she can rely on, and while friends have supported her as much as they can, L doesn’t want to place more strain on those who are also struggling.

Out of respect for their safety and well-being, some details are being kept intentionally private. L has valid concerns about the past situation being used against them, and is doing the best they to protect the kids children while navigating this hardship.

This fundraiser is focused on one urgent goal: keeping a stable roof over the children’s heads. Any support will go directly toward catching up on rent. If more is raised than needed for that, it will be used to address other essential, overdue bills as she works toward rebuilding stability.

L is someone who works incredibly hard and is determined to move forward. They simply needs help getting through this moment so they can stand on solid ground again.
