Last February, I got a call from one of my agents about a client company in town. They had an employee—a single mom, just twenty-seven years old with three children under eleven—who was living in the domestic abuse shelter next door. She was about to be released the following day, with nowhere to go. This young woman was brought to the US at eight years old, abandoned by her parents, and became a mother at fifteen. Her partner's parents were her only support system, but she wasn’t allowed to get a job, a driver’s license, or secure her DACA status. This was her second time in a shelter, and going back to her partner’s family was her only option.

The next day, we picked her and her children up with everything they owned in shopping bags and a few suitcases, and got them settled in our RV. For the next three months, because she didn’t have a car, we spent our days driving them to school and her to work and back. They ate with us, went to church with us, and became a part of our family. In April, God provided a car through our church, and she was able to save up enough to get an apartment back in Dallas. She planned to start a cleaning business to support herself and her children.

During the shutdown, the support she counted on didn’t come, and she got behind on rent. Now, she faces eviction and starting over. She’s started getting clients and is on the road to being self-supported, but my main concern is for these sweet babies. They have changed schools five times in the last two years. If I can help them have just a little stability, it’s worth any effort it takes. I’m asking for help to give this mom and her children a chance at stability and hope. Any support will make a real difference in their lives.
