Dear friends, family and community,
I am a 23 year old single mom, raising my 11 month old baby boy Gabriel who is my whole world. After escaping domestic violence during my pregnancy, I've worked so hard to provide my son with a safe and loving home. Unfortunately at the end of September, we were forced to leave our home because the rent was raised and I can no longer afford it. Today Oct 6th, Gabriel will be celebrating his first birthday. All I want is for him to have the safe, stable and loving home he deserves. Currently we are staying in a temporary crisis centre, but we only have 5 days left to stay here. I am desperately looking for a safer and more permanent solution but housing here is extremely expensive and hard to find. I’ve been calling shelters on the hour everyday just waiting for a spot to open up but waitlists are very long, and as someone who has experienced the shelter system first hand, I know my baby boy deserves better. Right now it seems like shelters are our only option, so I’m trying to find one where I’d feel safe enough and we’d have some privacy, like our own bedroom and washroom. These shelters usually cost about $500 per month and as mentioned waitlists are long. I’d like to limit time in shelters for my son as much as possible because I know the conditions are far less than ideal. After we’ve settled enough and are able to find a shelter, I’m going to keep working and searching to find an apartment to call home for me and my son so we can feel truly safe and have a secure home over our heads for the winter.

My goal is to raise enough funds to:
  • secure a safe place for me and my son to live; covering deposits and rent
  • cover basic necessities including; groceries, diapers and utilities.
Thank you to everyone who has read this far and for supporting us during these difficult times. All donations big or small mean the world to us and get us one step closer to having a safe and stable home. If you can't afford to donate please consider sharing my story, any and all help is greatly appreciated and gets us closer to our goal.
Thank you so much for your support
