I am a single father doing my best to care for my two young children. Every day, I work hard to pay our bills, feed my kids, and make sure they have everything they need—pull-ups, wipes, clothes, and medicine. I don’t receive food stamps, so I pay for all our food out of pocket. Recently, my car was repossessed while I was at work teaching swim lessons to babies. It was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life, because all I was trying to do was provide for my children and help families in my community learn a life skill.
Now, without transportation, I don’t know how I’m going to take care of my kids or even get to work. We live in a remote area, far from family and friends, and I’m worried about losing my job—the job I love—because I can’t get there. If I could find just a little support, it would help me tremendously. I’d be able to take my kids to daycare, pick them up, go to the grocery store or doctor, and not worry about how we’ll get to the places we need to go.
If you are reading this, I don’t know if you’ve ever been through a situation where you felt like the walls were closing in, no matter how hard you try. Just remember the people who helped when they could, whenever they could. I know there is a brighter day coming, and any support means the world to me and my children.
