Help a Single Dad Battle Bone Disease

My name is Krystal and I am fundraising for my friend-- Demorris Russell.

Demorris, who many of you know and love, has been diagnosed with a degenerative disease called Avascular Necrosis, commonly known as AVN. The disease is causing bone death in his hip. The result is chronic pain, constant and unrelenting, making even the simplest action of walking extremely difficult. Demorris has been struggling to work (he has been a bartender for nearly two decades) and is walking with the help of a cane. Unfortunately, his hip joint is on the verge of collapse.

Doctors say that at any point in the next six months, his joint may fully collapse, and he could lose all mobility. Thankfully, he is in line to get a hip replacement, but the soonest available surgery is nine months from now. Between now and his full recovery, he is looking at almost a year of being unable to walk and make ends meet for himself and his son, as he does not qualify for disability—however, he is relentlessly reapplying.

Blake’s mom shares in parenting, but also must work. Demorris’ remaining family are all in the South, so can only support him from afar. Over the next year, his LA family will help him with caregiving and childcare, but since he is unable to work, he needs your help.

Any donation given to help him and Blake during this time of great need is felt deeply in their hearts and appreciated beyond what words can explain. This is a very scary and humbling time for Demorris, but we know that with love and faith, anything is possible!

AVN and disability will not get the best of this little family! He may be in pain and out of commission for the next year, but we know he will come back stronger and ready to tackle what lies ahead, setting an example of strength and perseverance for his son. He cannot wait to pay this forward down the line!
