Ghee Thompson is a hugely valued member of Old Brodleians Women’s Rugby Club in Hipperholme, and this fundraiser has been set up by her teammates to support her through what will be a long and challenging recovery.

Ghee is our tighthead prop and our trusted goal kicker. This season, she was recognised for everything she brings to the club by winning both the Highest Points Scorer award and the Chairman’s Award for her outstanding contribution to the women’s team and the wider Old Brodleians community.

Off the pitch, Ghee is our equipment and kit manager — the person who quietly makes sure everything is organised and ready every single week.

While on tour with the team, Ghee suffered a devastating leg and ankle injury. She sustained a broken and dislocated ankle, along with fractures to her tibia, fibula and heel and nerve and ligament damage.

She was initially taken to hospital in Newcastle before being transferred to Leeds General Infirmary, where she underwent surgery to repair the damage.

Ghee is currently wheelchair bound and faces a long road to recovery. Over the coming months, she will require extensive physiotherapy, rehabilitation, specialist equipment, and regular hospital appointments, all whilst she is unable to work.

Anyone who knows Ghee knows how much rugby means to her and how much she gives to others. She is the sort of teammate every club hopes to have — dedicated, selfless, and always willing to go the extra mile.

Her teammates have created this fundraiser to help ease any financial pressure and allow Ghee to focus fully on her recovery.
