I am a 71-year-old retired grandma/senior citizen. I worked extremely hard for 31 years and did manage to put some money aside for my retirement. My husband got injured on the job (he was an emergency room nurse during COVID). He then fell off a roof and was severely injured. Since he was on workers' compensation (did receive a monthly stipend) and not working at the time of injury, the costs of caring for him and paying all bills fell on me. Please remember I am on Social Security.
I drained my retirement funds to pay bills as well as to care for his many needs. Since I am retired and on a fixed income, I couldn't pay the tax bills to the IRS or the state. I am left with a huge tax burden that I can't pay. The IRS is now threatening to seize my home as well as my state.
He is still suffering and needs to have more surgeries to repair the injuries that have not healed in over 2 years! This is a huge setback since he can't get a new job. He has been instructed by his surgeons to stay off both legs (he broke his right foot in 5 places and his left kneecap was shattered).
I am scared to death that I am going to be thrown out of my home and I have nowhere to go but the streets. I am hopeful you can find it in your heart to help a senior citizen.
