Help a Rescued Stray Cat Get Vet Care

I found this cat in my neighborhood after noticing she was starving and looked incredibly unwell. It took hours of patience to gain her trust, but eventually she let me give her some head scratches and I was able to bring her inside to safety. She was very scared and timid at first, but slowly warmed up to me. I made several Facebook posts to try and find her original owners, since she was so friendly, but had no luck. I reached out to local shelters, but they were all full and not accepting strays. Animal services told me they were full as well, and that if I surrendered her, she would likely be euthanized. I couldn't let that happen, so I decided to take responsibility for her care myself.

I contacted my personal vet, who was concerned about her symptoms and recommended I take her to the Atascadero vet right away. When we arrived, the staff confirmed she was in rough shape: severely dehydrated, suffering from an upper respiratory infection, infested with fleas, and weighing only 3.1 pounds. She wasn't microchipped and had very few teeth left, likely from a previous dental procedure. The vet gave her fluids, an antibiotic shot, and flea treatment to start her on the road to recovery.

The costs for her vet bills, medication, and a follow-up appointment in seven days are more than I can manage alone. Any support you can give will help this sweet cat get the care she desperately needs. Thank you for helping me give her a second chance at a healthy, happy life.

*update* she has a heart murmur, and after her blood results came back she’s also incredibly anemic. She is starting another anabiotic because they think the anemia is due to the flea infestation.

I also want to clarify that the reason why I took on her care is because I am quite confident that she did have a previous owner due to how friendly she became over just a few hours. A lot of strays come into my neighborhood through the river bed that are not so friendly and pretty independent. However, when we get more friendly strays like this one, unfortunately they usually come from the 55 and up mobile home park right next to my home. Unfortunately, it’s likely that her owner passed away and she was discarded. However, if that’s not the case and she does have a family looking for her. I am still on the search for them.

the vet called and she is looking more stable and might be discharged later today if she continues to do well.
