Help a Regenerative, Queer Farm Survive Crisis

We're a second-generation, regenerative farm in St Lawrence County, New York. For 23 years, the farm was managed by my parents, but in 2023, that management was transferred to me - Kia-Beth, a 31 year old, nonbinary agroecologist. I stepped into the role of caretaking and learning from 113.5 acres, 20 cows, three greenhouses, three gardens, nine pigs, 17 sheep, and 36 chickens with little fanfare but much responsibility.

In 2025, I made the management decision to invite two friends to move to the farm. It was both strategic for the farm's sake - I was at my max, trying to do everything - and strategic socio-politically. My friends are queer people of color, and they evacuated their home in Mississippi just one day before I.C.E. swept through. It took over six months, an evacuation network and an enormous amount of funds to get them here. We are now learning how to work and live together, figuring out what our capacities are and how to create a life that more sustainably meets our needs. As we witness the targets on people like us grow, we are making plans to ensure the farm becomes a sanctuary for the persecuted, focusing in particular on the queer community.

The arrival of new people to the farm, however, has coincided with rapidly compounding chaotic emergencies. Shortly after my friends moved in, I was struck by a milk truck and landed in the hospital with a broken ankle, concussion and totaled car. Our already faulty stove took a nosedive, and then the electricity in our house went out. Almost overnight, we found ourselves without heat, running water, electricity, or a way to prepare food. To survive, we are all crammed into my father's house. Tensions are running high, and solutions are thin on the ground.

We have both long and short-term goals. I am committed to this farm no matter what. I'm not fleeing the country or selling off chunks of land. I - we - want to continue improving the infrastructure, protecting the endangered species here and start creating that sanctuary for the greater queer community. We are also in a time of major transitions, and we need to address these recent emergencies.

This fundraiser is for gathering the necessary monies to repair and replace our unsafe, unusable, 60-plus year old electric system. We've had both our electric supplier and our electrician look at everything; the outer and inner wall need to be prepared, the supplier will run a new line, the electrician will install a new breaker box and wire the basics, and the job must be professionally inspected afterwards.

The estimates we've been given for all this total $6,000.00, with $3,500.00 down before any work begins. We don't have this.

Since my car crash, we have been supported in myriad ways by our amazing neighbors, and we are incredibly grateful. But if we're going to get our bearings again, going to be able to settle in and care for ourselves and others, we need one final push. $6000 and a new electric system will change everything.

Thank you in advance. Much love.
