Help a refugee Afghan diplomat's family with rent

My name is Noah Klose, and I am the Director of Community Outreach at Homes Not Borders, and this fundraiser is on behalf of Mazullah, an Afghan diplomat and his family of 7 who are newly arrived in the United States. In Afghanistan, Mazullah was a diplomat who had a long career in the foreign service and as well as domestic ministries and elections. While he worked with American diplomats he was never employed by the US Government or Military and was unable to join the US airlift that evacuated 76,000 out of Kabul in August of 2021. Due to his past work with the Afghan government his family was targeted by the Taliban and his place of work had already been bombed several times. He managed to get his family safely to a neighboring country but was unable to secure a work visa and had to survive off of friends and favors for over two years while his children were unable to attend school.

He was finally able to make contact with former colleagues at a US mission in a second neighboring country that along with a DC based refugee non-profit and local Temple, were able to arrange for him to be granted Humanitarian Parole to the US and he and his family arrived in the DC area in November of 2023. With help from the local temple they were able to secure 6 months in a 3 bedroom apartment, which we hoped was going to be enough time to get them settled and set up with jobs to sustain themselves. Unfortunately the US government stopped providing support services for Afghan Humanitarian Parolees that arrived after September 2023 and as such claiming asylum, securing work permits and ensuring that they are connected to the proper services has taken longer than anticipated.

We are hoping to come up with rest of 2 months rent $5,000 for Mazullah's family to ensure that his school aged children can finish out the school year and that they have the time to secure jobs and/or arrange for them to move at the end of this period. We have some left over money and support from the groups previously involved but not enough to cover all 2 months. All money donated will go directly towards paying rent and anything over that limit will go directly to the family for their expenses.

We have kept the family's names and background vague as they still have family back in Afghanistan and we do not want to put them in danger.
