Hi, my name is Ace (or Moss) and I have been homeless since April of 2022. I have been couch-surfing and using funds from friends to pay for hotels since then, as my health is too fragile to stay in a congregate shelter. I've been on the lists for a Section 8 voucher or CHAMP housing and a couple of other options for a while now, but they're not moving anywhere near quickly enough and my health has been deteriorating without housing stability. I cannot live with my family as it is an abusive situation and my extended family is requiring that I reconcile with my parents before they will offer me any support (which is untenable).
I am unable to work because of my disabilities and have been unable to receive disability benefits just yet, as I have not yet received the necessary diagnoses.
Me and some of my friends are looking for houses together, so hopefully I am gonna be housed in the next couple of months, but the work to get there is really really stressful without knowing for sure if I am gonna end up out on the streets in the interim. I offered to do a lot of the work to find places that will work for us, because I have a lot of experience knowing what will be expensive to fix and what will be easier to fix in a house, but like it's a lot to think about all the time.
