Help a queer, disabled family avoid eviction
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Mason, and I am fundraising on behalf of Aria and James, a queer, trans, disabled, neurodivergent family in Calgary.
Aria (she/her), James (they/them), their kid Alex (he/him), and their dog Button are in immediate need for community help to avoid eviction.
Aria was disabled in a work accident and denied Worker's Compensation Benefits, and she is currently working towards receiving disability benefits. James had their workplace close due to high rent costs and has struggled to find work since. While they are hoping to avoid immediate eviction, they are also hoping to move somewhere else if at all possible. Their current apartment is not healthy (i.e., the tap water is not drinkable).
Their current costs are broken down as such:
$5180 - 4 months worth of rent, due ASAP to avoid eviction.
$355 - Total electricity bill, $221 to avoid having electricity shut off.
$188 - Medication costs for this month
$800 - Phone, internet, water, food, misc. costs.
Aria and James are meeting with a support worker mid-September to get help with navigating the system for disability aid, but until then we are hoping for any and all community support we can muster for their family.
A bit about Aria and James:
Aria and James are both musicians and artists who love making music together; their band, Gay Power, focuses on themes of Queer Joy. They often sound tech queer parties, inclusive events, and all-ages shows. In a mentorship capacity, you'll often find them teaching young queer folks how to sound tech and facilitate their own shows. With their 13-year-old, Alex, they're writing, designing, and coding a video game inspired by the family dog, Button.
(note from Mason: I help community members set up GoFundMe pages in times of need. There are many reasons why someone might need support in this process, including access to technology, internet, energy for creating the page, etc. 100% of the funds raised go directly to the beneficiaries via their own online banking.)
