Help Queer Black Educator & Artist Pay Off Ed Debt
Donation protected
I am raising money for my incredible friend Tiffany, who has accrued an unjust amount of debt in the pursuit of being an abolitionist educator and leader. Tiffany is a Black queer abolitionist educator, an artist (see below for some of her incredible work), a healer, a public school teacher, and soon-to-be administrator in New York City. Tiffany has done so much to give back to all of the communities she has been a part of--her colleagues, her school, fellow artists and educators, her grad school cohort, her students-- and is a person who has truly touched, healed, moved, educated, and inspired so many. I can say that the opportunity to work with Tiffany in my grad school cohort was the most transformational, joyous, and important educational experience I have ever had.
I want to support Tiffany because she has given me so much, and I see how Tiffany's debt has had a tremendously negative impact on her. Firstly, our college's refusal to transfer her degree until she can pay her outstanding payments (during the global crisis of the pandemic). Secondly, the day-to-day stresses and indignities of managing ridiculously high loan payments. And thirdly, her unjust amount of debt has prevented her from purchasing a home and she is being priced out of renting in her neighborhood in Brooklyn. The $8,000 we are asking for does not begin to cover her student debt, but would help with paying the highest priority debt owed for her Ed Leadership masters degree and giving her some breathing room with her payments.
Recent studies have shown that Black women have the highest student loan debt of any other racial group. This is a function of white supremacy, and giving whatever you can to support a Black educator as mutual aid is a step towards justice and liberation. Please support Tiffany by giving whatever you can (no matter how small) to eliminate her unjust student loan debt. #BuyBackBlackDebt
