My partner's child is having an unexpected, major surgery in two weeks. As a matter of privacy, I cannot say what the specific situation is, but it is something that may require an extended stay in both the hospital and extended at-home care.

My partner will be needing to travel out of state and we are tentatively expecting they will need to be in the area, with their child, for 6-8 weeks.

This is one of those things you never really prepare for and while insurance should hopefully cover all immediate medical costs; expenses for travel, gas, food and other necessities are still needed.
