Hi,

My friend Mariam, a young woman from G@z@, was attending university in the USA and came to Canada for a Model United Nations conference. She was denied re-entry to the USA and had her student visa revoked due to her Palestinian background and nationality, and found herself stranded in Canada with no safe place to return to due to the ongoing genocide. Additionally, almost everything she owned (other than the contents of a small carry-on suitcase that she brought with her) was left behind in her dorm room, and her university threw it all out instead of shipping her belongings to her.

Mariam has acquired a work permit, is taking Francisation classes, and hopes to learn French and find a job here. She grew up in a low-income family with a single mother and came here with no support or contacts. My roommate and I have secured a room for her to live, donated our extra furniture to her, and paid her rent for September.

We are hoping to raise enough money for her to pay for rent, utilities, food & groceries, transportation, and other/emergency expenses over the next 4 months while she looks for a job here.

Her rent is $700 and utilities are $35-60/month, so we are hoping to raise a total of $4500:

Every donation helps and even $5 or $10 goes a long way.

If you are unable to donate, please share this fundraiser and let us know of any job opportunities in the Montreal area.
