Hello, my name is Mohammed Salem, and I’m speaking to you from Gaza. I don’t know if I will survive to see another day. The war here is destroying everything, leaving us with no hope for life. We live in constant fear, knowing that every moment could be our last.
In 2023, I graduated from the Faculty of Engineering and began my career. After years of hard work and saving, I was able to open my own sportswear and shoe care business. I poured all my savings into building my future, even spending over $20,000 to furnish my apartment in preparation for my upcoming wedding.
But the war took everything. My store was reduced to rubble, my apartment destroyed, and my dream of a simple life like any other human being vanished. Now, we are living in tents, with nothing left but the weight of our grief and fear.
My family, including my father, mother, brothers, and sisters, are all suffering. My youngest nephews and nieces—Rima, Saad, and Walid—don’t even understand what’s happening. My sister Rawaa, who is pregnant, had hoped for a peaceful pregnancy, but the war didn’t allow that either.
Now, we are living in a small tent in southern Gaza, with no electricity, no clean water, and no kitchen or bathroom. The nights are freezing and dark, and the fear of death never leaves us. We are living on the edge, waiting for the next disaster to strike.

مرحبًا، اسمي محمد سالم، وأنا أتحدث إليكم من غزة. لا أعلم إن كنت سأعيش لأرى يومًا آخر. الحرب هنا تدمر كل شيء، ولا تترك لنا أي أمل في الحياة. نحن نعيش في خوف دائم، وندرك أن كل لحظة قد تكون الأخيرة.
في عام 2023، تخرجت من كلية الهندسة وبدأت مسيرتي المهنية. بعد سنوات من العمل الشاق والادخار، تمكنت من فتح مشروعي الخاص للعناية بالملابس والأحذية الرياضية. استثمرت كل مدخراتي في بناء مستقبلي، وحتى أنفقت أكثر من 20,000 دولار في تجهيز شقتي استعدادًا لزواجي القادم.
