My name is Rachel. I am a single mother of four children and a nurse practitioner who has spent my life caring for others. Now I find myself in the unimaginable position of needing help myself.
Feb. 2026 I was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. Unfortunately before my diagnosis I was laid off due to market closure from my job. I also totaled my vehicle a few weeks after the diagnosis in an accident no fault of my own.
I am currently being treated by a head and neck oncologist in Sarasota,FL. My first partial glossectomy was on March 13, 2026 and most recently April 21, 2026 I had another partial glossectomy and neck dissection to remove lymph nodes from my neck. I am currently recovering from that procedure.
As a nurse practitioner, I have spent years helping patients navigate serious diagnoses and advocating for them during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. I never imagined I would suddenly become the patient.
Because the cancer is on my tongue, speaking has become very painful and difficult. My career as a nurse practitioner depends heavily on communicating with patients, educating them, and speaking throughout the day. My ability to return back to work full time is still unknown.
I am asking for help to cover:
• A PET scan since it appears insurance will not pay for it.
• Help getting an inexpensive car to get us by until I can obtain employment.
• Basic living expenses while I am unable to work. Anticipate this to be for another 2-3 months.
• Support for my children while I go through treatment and recovery
Asking for help is incredibly hard, but right now I truly need support to get through this battle.
My faith remains strong, and I believe that what the enemy meant for my demise, God will use for my testimony. I am determined to fight this cancer and come through the other side for my children. I also have a passion for telling my story to help prevent this in others.
If you feel led to help, any donation—no matter the amount—will go directly toward medical care and helping my family stay afloat during treatment.
If you cannot donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean the world to me.
Thank you for your prayers, kindness, and support during this difficult time.
Rachel
