Help a Non-Binary Queer Move Back West!

Donation protected

Hello, everyone! I have held back on making a big ask for support, but I need help.

As some may know, I have been unemployed since the lockdowns began in March 2020. Due to reasons beyond my control, I did not qualify for unemployment nor pandemic relief. I finally got a job in November 2020; however, I had to quit because they were unaccommodating to me, a transgender person with chronic pain.

UPDATE 12/11/20: With the help of an advisor, I filed for unemployment again and was ACCEPTED! I file my first bi-weekly claim next week and should see that money by early-mid January.

ABOUT ME:
I moved to Philadelphia in January 2017, after a traumatic housing experience in New York City with two people who refused to manage their alcohol and substance abuse problems. I had nowhere to go and no idea how long I would stay in Philly.

Since I moved here, I built community with other queer and trans people and fellow comedians.  I worked at Mazzoni Center where I organized the 2017, 2018 & 2019 Philadelphia Trans Wellness Conferences. I carved space in the local comedy community for queer and trans performers when I held the position of Education Director at a local theater. I taught trans competency trainings to local businesses and organizations. I led improv classes and workshops to adults of all experience levels. I found chosen family in Philadelphia’s queer community.

I have truly loved my time in this city, but it’s time for me to move back west.

This year has been painful for many of us and it’s put so much into perspective. I know I need to move back west for my mental health and financial stability. I need to be closer to where I’m from, closer to my dad and sister, back in warmer weather, in a housing situation that is right for my needs.

A UHaul from Philly to the southwest will cost nearly $2,000

First, last, and a deposit on a place will cost nearly $3,000

Another month or two of rent while I search for a job will cost approximately $1,500

Lastly, I would begin my search for a reliable compact car. I cannot afford to move to my home state of California, but I would like to have a car so I can drive to see family and community in California. The cost of a car is dependent on many factors, but I’m asking for help for a down payment on a used vehicle. Anything helps.
