She waited to have a child until the situation felt right. She thought she was building a future with someone who would be a loving partner and devoted father. But in the final days of her pregnancy—and even while she was in labor—he betrayed her, stole her money and threatened to kill her and her baby.

We are asking for your help to support this courageous young woman who gave birth on July 19 under the most heartbreaking and terrifying circumstances imaginable. She is a family member of my daughter-in-law, and my heart aches witnessing what should have been one of the most joyful moments of her life turn into a nightmare. Her partner, who has a history of severe mental illness that had been managed with medication, stopped taking his meds and became violent. He was arrested after threatening to kill her and their unborn child—yelling while standing outside her father’s home, where she had gone seeking safety… alone in the house, with her father out of town. Police arrived in force, in full tactical gear with rifles. He was taken into custody… but released just three days later, on July 18.

Frightened of him, the very next day, she gave birth—alone—after over 24 hours of hard labor, needing an emergency C-section. While still in the hospital recovering, she learned that he had been cheating on her and had completely drained her bank account. Every dollar she had carefully saved—working full-time throughout her pregnancy—was gone. She discovered this betrayal when her insurance payment bounced in the hospital. The money she saved to pay her bills during this time and care for her newborn had been stolen.

Now, just days postpartum, she has been readmitted to the hospital with a serious infection from her C-section incision. She is in pain, unable to lift her baby, and facing recovery alone—without financial support, a partner, or anyone by her side to help with her newborn. She is navigating trauma, healing from major surgery, and trying to care for her baby—all at once.
