A few weeks ago, my dog suddenly needed emergency surgery. The veterinarian told me that without immediate treatment, she would not survive.
I served 20 years in the United States Navy, and after leaving the military, my dog has been more than just a pet. She has been my emotional support companion while I adjusted back to civilian life and worked through the challenges that many veterans face when transitioning out of service.
When the vet explained that surgery was the only option to save her life, I didn’t hesitate. I authorized the procedure and took out a $15,000 line of credit to make sure she received the care she needed.
Thankfully, the surgery was successful, and she is recovering well, and I’m incredibly grateful that she is still here with me.
Right now, I am back in school completing my Single Subject teaching credential and currently going through student teaching, which means I’m working full-time in the classroom while finishing my program and not earning a regular income during this stage of training. Because of that, the unexpected cost of this emergency surgery has created a serious financial hardship.
I’m asking for help from anyone who might be willing to contribute, even if it’s a small amount, to help offset the cost of the surgery that saved her life.
If donating isn’t possible, sharing this fundraiser would mean just as much.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any support you’re able to give. My dog has helped me through some of the most difficult moments in my life, and I’m grateful I was able to be there for her when she needed me most.
