My name is Cassie, and I never imagined I would be writing something like this. I’m asking for help for the person I love most—my fiancé, Shahab—who is currently being held in ICE custody.
Shahab is a Navy veteran who served this country honorably. He has lived in the United States since he was 7 years old and truly considers this country his home. He is a hardworking, loving man who cares deeply about his family, his friends, his two dogs, and our future together. We got engaged on our one-year anniversary and were so excited to start building our life.
On March 25, 2026, Shahab was asked to report to Homeland Security to check in with updated work documents. Instead of a routine check-in, he was detained.
Since being taken into custody, Shahab—who suffers from PTSD and depression—has been denied access to his prescribed medication. As a result, he has experienced severe night terrors that have led to him being placed in solitary confinement. During that time, he was medically evaluated as suicidal, yet he still has not been provided with the medication he needs.
I have spent countless hours calling attorneys, nonprofit organizations, veteran services, and disability resources, desperately searching for help. The overwhelming response has been the same: systems are overloaded, there are no clear timelines, and no one can make promises. Even organizations that are meant to help are struggling to keep up with the volume of cases.
I have also been advised, based on what Shahab is experiencing, to consider joining class action lawsuits related to conditions at Adelanto detention center, particularly regarding concerns of medical negligence. This has been incredibly difficult to process, but it reinforces how serious this situation is.
Because of a past charge from 2008, immigration attorneys are quoting retainers between $20,000 and $30,000 just to begin helping us fight for him.
We are facing the possibility of him being detained for up to six months without resolution, all while not receiving the medical care he desperately needs
To make matters even more difficult, Shahab’s job will not be able to keep him on payroll past April 2026, leaving him without income and adding financial strain to an already painful situation.
This situation has turned our lives upside down. We went from planning our future to fighting just to get him the care and support he needs to get through each day.
We are asking for help to cover:
- Legal fees to fight for Shahab’s release and protect his rights
- Financial support while he is detained and unable to work
- Living expenses during this uncertain time
- Ongoing and future mental health care, as this experience is deeply traumatic
- Medical care he will need after his release, including therapy and treatment
This is not just about legal fees—it’s about giving Shahab a chance to come home, to heal, and to continue building the life we planned together.
If you are able to donate, share, or even just keep Shahab in your thoughts and prayers, it truly means more than I can express.
