Help a Navajo Mother of 6

Donation protected
My mon worked for the Navajo Nation for nearly 20 years, defending Navajo land rights against large developers. In 2016, when her grandmother became ill, she moved back home to care for our great-grandmother and help her finish renovating the home she grew up in which had suffered water damage. For the past year, my mom was doing freelance legal work, helping Navajo families with land disputes and Navajo preference issues.

When COVID hit the Navajo Reservation, things took a turn for the worst. Six weeks ago, her aunt who lived with us for years and babysat us, tested positive for COVID-19, and passed away within 5 days. As COVID spread across the Rez, my mom slowly lost her livelihood. The Navajo courts closed, new clients stopped coming in, and the bills started piling up. To make matters worse, the transmission on her used Honda-CRV crapped out, our washer broke, the refrigerator is on the fritz, and the repairs she started on our home had to be put on hold.

This GoFundMe is set up to help my mom and my 4 siblings still at home. My brother and I have been sending her unemployment money but that’s barely keeping her afloat. It’s not enough to help pay for major things like a car transmission, a new washer, or repair the remaining damage on our home. Also, my college-aged siblings need to start college classes remotely but don’t have working computers.

Here are the major expenses that your donation will be used for:

- Used truck (extremely valuable during spring when it rains and winters when it snows since we live on a dirt road): $5000
- New washer and dryer: $1600
- Septic system service: $700
- Finish remaining home renovations (floors in kitchen and bathrooms, 2 new toilets, drywall, window in bedroom): $3000
- New refrigerator: $1,200
- 2 computers for college-aged kids who need to go back to school remotely: $1500
- Food & utilities for her and the kids for 3 months: $2000

My mom could have worked for a huge corporate law firm, but she stayed on the Rez to defend Navajo land rights. We need her help to keep defending Indigenous peoples!

THANK YOU for your donations! Every little bit helps! ❤️
