This private crowdfunding page is in support of a young musician and DJ from Palestine, who asked for her anonymity to be kept.
She’s 23, originally from Gaza and currently based in Ramallah, Palestine.
She is a long-term victim of domestic violence; abuse that she has reported to the local police multiple times, and who have continuously failed to help or keep her safe.
The local police or law enforcement organisations give immunity to her abuser and believe his word over hers. She has also reached out to women's rights and human rights organisations who were unable to help her.
Her mother and younger siblings are also subject to this abuse. Her greatest ambition is to become self-sufficient as a professional musician and multidisciplinary artist so that she can help her mother and siblings out of this very dangerous situation.
She is desperate to leave her situation in Ramallah as she is not able to continue her studies there due to the mental and physical damage she is facing.
The good news is she just got a place, as a transfer student, at the prestigious Bard College in Berlin to study Fine Arts for two years, starting Spring 2020.
However, she just received the news that her university can only cover about 75% of the tuition, and can not cover her living expenses. By the time she was informed about this, it was already too late to apply for other funds in order to enrol in this coming semester starting January 23rd; she will apply to fund the semesters after this.
The remaining 25% of the tuition is 2,723€ for the semester, and living expenses are budgeted at 6,000€ per semester, so a few months of your support to get her feet on the ground would be very helpful.
She is hoping to work part time as soon as possible and would eventually be able to support herself. She is looking to raise a minimum of 7,000€ in order to accept her place with a sense of security.
Lastly, please do not share this on social media. If you think of friends who may feel empathetic and want to donate, feel free to share privately, making it clear we must keep this fundraiser private for the sake of our friends safety.
We - Hiro Kone, Luz Diaz (Room 4 Resistance) and Anaïs Brémond (Palestine Underground documentary producer) - are appealing to you, friends and members of our respective communities, to donate if you can to support her at this crucial stage of her life.
Everything from 5€ will help her escape a really unhealthy and dangerous situation and help her build her future in a safe environment.
