help a multi-racial queer femme heal

Jenny is a multi-racial queer working class disabled femme living in Portland Oregon. She experienced a stroke due to micro clotting from Long Covid in January 2023. A friend of ours generously set up a small fundraiser, and we hoped she was on the road to healing. Everyone's support meant so much to us, and continues to. Thank you to those who donated, shared, dropped of meals, gave rides to Providence for appointments. We couldn't done it without you.

Unfortunately, stroke is more serious and devastating than we could imagine, and the road to recovery is long. In June, at the advice of our doctor, we eloped (a trip that had been planned and largely paid for before all of this happened) and Jenny suffered a significant concussion on day 3. I found her, laying flat on her back on a concrete patio during a tropical storm. To say it was terrifying was an understatement.

The concussion has complicated her stroke symptoms, and either of these things alone would be immensely difficult for a person attempting to work full time. On top of that Jenny has been having debilitating GI symptoms for almost a year now and has a bunch of complex testing ordered to see if she has Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis.

We are very lucky to be union represented at our place of employment, and Jenny petitioned the sick bank multiple times this winter/spring to get leave coverage. She is now out and facing serious loss of wages if she continues to try to rehabilitate while also keeping her job, which is her source of health insurance and income.

Current medical debt balance: $4,000

Lost wages: $8,000

Ongoing medical support: $6,000 (co-insurance of appointments, transportation to appointments, wheelchair, walker, medical testing, cost of medication)

Now to the uplifting bit: we feel VERY loved by friends and family. Even though our day to days can be isolating, people have been offering their support and kindness.
