Mirian & Sebastian - A Mother Fighting for Her Son's Future

Mirian is my sister-in-law and a single mother to Sebastian, her severely autistic son who requires full-time care. Because of the level of care Sebastian needs, Mirian is unable to work. She has raised him entirely on her own, without a single child support payment in over three years , while her ex-husband, Sebastian's father, has faced zero consequences.

Currently, we are fighting in court to obtain authorization for Mirian's son to travel to the USA for to get the care and education he needs.

Haven (Sebastian's father) comes from a family of great wealth. He has retained six lawyers to fight our efforts to get Sebastian to the USA. Mirian can barely afford one.

We simply want the right to bring her son to the United States, where he can receive the comprehensive autism care that Peru cannot provide, and where Mirian can be surrounded by family who will help her raise him.

Here in the United States, Mirian's sisters have been sending every spare dollar they have to Peru to cover her legal fees. Instead of building their own future, they are pouring everything they have into this fight, because the alternative is unthinkable.

Sebastian's father does not want to raise Sebastian. He never did. He has since had a child with another woman and has moved on entirely, except in the courtroom, where he fights Mirian not out of love for his son, but out of pure vindictiveness.

During their marriage, Mirian suffered physical and psychological abuse. There were times when he kept Mirian and Sebastian locked inside the apartment. He had absolute control over their lives, even deciding what they could eat.

To make matters worse, Haven has already bribed two of Mirian's lawyers, forcing her to start over with new legal representation twice. There are credible concerns that he is now attempting to influence the judge as well. This is what Mirian is up against: a wealthy man using money as a weapon against a mother who has nothing but love for her child.

Mom & Dad — Attacked in Their Own Home

As if one legal battle weren't enough, Mirian's parents, both senior citizens, were the victims of a violent mob attack over a local land dispute just two weeks ago. A group of neighbors forced their way into the family home and beat them, along with their son, until all three lost consciousness. They were left on the floor of their own home. All three were taken to the emergency room.

They are now pursuing legal action against their attackers. But justice in Peru costs money they do not have.

Mirian pours every ounce of energy into caring for Sebastian while simultaneously fighting a legal battle she should never have had to fight alone. And two elderly parents are recovering from a brutal attack while trying to find justice.
